Buildings & Grounds
The interior and exterior of all school buildings/properties are maintained by the Superintendent of Buildings & Grounds and a very talented maintenance and custodial staff. The school district maintains over 245,000 square feet of instructional space spread across three schools and two administrative buildings, three playgrounds, 60 acres of athletic fields/open space and countless miles of roads and parking lots. In addition, the district continues to own and maintain the Columbus Avenue Elementary School which is now rented to Easter Seals of New York at a rate of approximately $100,000 per year.Despite being owned by the Valhalla UFSD Board of Education, the school districts facilities are the very heart and sole of a wide array of community wide events/activities such as AYSO Soccer, Mt. Pleasant Youth Soccer, Kensico Little League, Boys Scouts, Girl Scouts and an array of programs operated by the Town of Mt. Pleasant and Town of Greenburgh Recreation Departments. Valhalla's Buildings & Grounds Department is headed by Mr. Robert May. Mr. May has a wealth of construction and mechanical experience and it is under his supervision that our schools have become widely known throughout Westchester County as the cleanest and most attractive looking. Mr. May is a resident within the boundaries of the school district and he remains on-call at all times in the event of an emergency. In the past five years the community has witnessed the dramatic expansion of it's physical plant and athletic facilities to meet current enrollment needs. To learn more about this work, please download the document at the bottom of this page. The Superintendent of Buildings & Grounds is also responsible for keeping the Board of Education and Office of the Superintendent appraised of any major physical plant issues such as the current status of the roofs at the Middle/High School and Virginia Road, the window replacement projects at the Middle/High School and Virginia Road, the access/egress and parking issues at Virginia Road, and the shortage of instructional space at the Middle/High School. If you are a vendor or trade looking to do business with the school district as it pertains to Mr. May's department, you are encouraged to submit your request to: Mr. Robert May, Superintendent of Buildings & Grounds, 316 Columbus Avenue, Valhalla, NY 10595.
